Biography
Mary was born and grew up in Devon and for much of her life has lived and worked in the South West of England. She graduated from the University of Leeds and has had a wide ranging career in education and training.
Mary began a teaching career in secondary education followed by teaching and management posts in the further and adult education sectors. Along the way she strayed briefly into both primary and higher education and can therefore claim to have engaged fully with the principles of “Lifelong Learning”, having taught at all levels and learners aged from 8 to 80!
She has also run a specialist commercial training company. For several years Mary worked for an awarding body (OCN South West) where she worked with providers in the region on the development of locally accredited learning programmes, including Access to HE, as well as working on national qualification development.
Mary comes to the post of South West VETNET LLN Manager from the Sector Skills Development Agency (now the UK Commission for Employment and Skills) where she has been working with Sector Skills Councils, including Lantra, on the Sector Qualifications Reform Programme. Mary has a special interest in the education systems of other European countries, in particular France and Germany where she has lived.
Her leisure interests include languages and travel, walking, horse riding, skiing, reading, cinema and theatre and just being by the sea.
