Myfanwy Griffith Head of Section for Animal Management at Askham Bryan College has spent many hours outlining which courses are available to vocational students with varying backgrounds. This has resulted in a huge portfolio of progression accords.

Progression Accords: Askham Bryan leads the field

Myfanwy Griffith, Head of Section for Animal Management at Askham Bryan College

These detail the possible progression routes and give additional guidance on how students can increase their chances of being placed on their desired course.  Just within this York based land-based college there are dozens of opportunities for learners to progress in whatever their interests may be, be it general animals, agriculture, equine or vet nursing.

Even if you make a choice as you start a national diploma, Myfanwy has made it clear that there is the opportunity to focus or change your interests as you start your foundation degree or progression year.  Equine students are welcome to start a general animal management foundation degree and vice versa . Myfanwy has logged the Animal Management accords and discussions and drafts for agriculture and equine are also under discussion.  The Equine progression year, allowing students to top up their Foundation Degrees to BSc level, is open to students from other colleges for the first time this September.

Not only have Myfanwy’s efforts left Askham Bryan top of the leader board for progression accords in the country, but there are two other firsts for VETNET LLN from Myfanwy’s efforts.  The progression accords to date have focused on the National Diploma qualifications.  Myfanwy is the first to outline in a VETNET LLN progression accord how NVQ level 3 work-based-learners are valued as potential Higher Education students.

Currently there is no mention of NVQ tariff points on the UCAS webpages for students studying animal related qualifications.  Myfanwy has outlined how their applications will be welcome for a range of Animal Management courses at Askham Bryan College.
