National diploma students from Askham Bryan College (York), Craven College (Skipton), Huddersfield Technical College, Northumberland College at Kirkley Hall and Tong High School (Bradford), arrive at Newcastle University Student Halls of residence for the start of Animal Uni. One student discovers the importance of timekeeping and meeting deadlines (a useful life skill) as she misses the train with all her friends on. She arrives later... and wiser!

Monday afternoon was a mini ‘freshers’ week’ at Animal Uni. The student reps had laid on a range of team building icebreaking tasks, which seemed to suit our hands on vocational students. Before long everyone was united in unlikely tasks such as “avoiding walking in the monster infested swamp” and “raising the rubber duck using water and a perforated tube with nothing but fingers, toes, noses and tongues to plug the leaking holes." More familiar games such as giant twister and dear old egg and spoon races ensured that if you didn’t know anyone before, you instantly had friends with many hilarious tales of heroism to share!
