Biography

Margaret is a graduate of the University of London with a BSc (Hons) in Environmental Biology with Zoology, and a PGCE.

She taught Biology to A level in London before relocating to the North West in the 1980s. A move to sixth form colleges followed and in time became Head of Biology, teaching Biology and a variety of vocational courses.

At Eccles College, Margaret introduced Animal Care as a BTEC First Diploma to the curriculum to widen participation. She was particularly successful at involving local employers from the animal care industry and a BTEC National Diploma in Animal Management followed.

The VETNET LLN advert appealed to Margaret on various levels. She likes challenge and constructive change and, in many ways, saw this as her “ideal job”. Playing a role in providing a user-friendly qualifications map of existing provision and facilitating vocational learners’ progression into veterinary and animal- related higher education seemed to be a natural step in helping learners achieve.
