Shuttleworth Surveys ex-Students!
Shuttleworth College, Bedfordshire, has retained links with students who have completed its Level 3 Animal Management provision; some have progressed to its own Foundation degree provision and a proportion of these onto the Honours degree at Writtle College.
They provide an untapped source of market intelligence
about the higher level skills they have gained during their studies
and those that they require in their current and projected careers.
For those in relevant employment, their employers are a potential source
of information on the higher level skills that they would like to see
in any CPD provision.
With support from VETNET LLN in
the Eastern Region, a small, sharply targeted research project is being
undertaken to seek their views on their learning and on its relevance
to their current lives.
The aim is to contact as many
as possible of the Shuttleworth Animal Management Alumni to capture
their view on higher level skills gained through academic study and
those required for employment. The objective is to inform future
HE curriculum development, ensuring the vocational relevance and currency
of Animal Management programmes in the Eastern Region.
The project will produce:
- - A database of Shuttleworth alumni showing career destinations within and without the Animal Industries.
- - An inventory of the higher level skills gained through academic study (with identification of significant omissions).
- - An inventory of higher level skills needed for employment in the Animal Industries.
- - A summary of employers’ perceptions of their CPD requirements
The project will report in June 2009. Further information on these developments is available by e-mailing Mike Johnston, College Manager, on Mike.Johnston@shuttleworth.ac.uk
